EU Blue Card Application

The EU Blue Card is a residence and work permit expressly for highly skilled non-EU citizens, making it easier for them to live and work within the Netherlands.

What the EU Blue Card Offers

The EU Blue Card allows highly qualified professionals to work in an EU country for an extended period, with the option to move to another EU country after a certain period. Given the potential for permanent residency after several years, it’s particularly attractive to those who wish to establish themselves in Europe.

Blue Card Eligibility

To qualify for the Blue Card, candidates need to meet specific criteria:

  • Education and Experience: A bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant field, or equivalent experience in high-demand sectors such as technology, engineering, or healthcare.

  • Employment Contract: A job offer with a minimum duration of one year from a European employer, meeting the EU Blue Card salary threshold.

  • Salary Requirements: The salary must meet or exceed a set threshold established by the EU, ensuring that employees are compensated fairly.

EU Blue Card: € 5331
Reduced Criterion: € 4265

Reduced Salary Criterion for the EU Blue Card

The reduced salary criterion for the EU Blue Card applies to graduates who have completed a higher education program. The (recognized) reference must apply for the EU Blue Card residence permit within 3 years after the graduation or PhD completion date. This lower salary criterion also applies in the case of a change of employer or the extension of the residence permit within 3 years after graduation or promotion. Additionally, it applies when the residence permit is extended within 24 months after the first residence permit is granted.

Decision Timeline for the EU Blue Card Application

As a recognized sponsor with the Dutch Immigration and Naturalization Service (IND), BlueStone can ensure that the EU Blue Card application is processed quickly. When an employer is an IND-recognized sponsor, the decision on the Blue Card application can take up to 30 days. If the employer is not recognized, the decision process can take up to 90 days. The IND is required to make a simultaneous decision for the worker’s application and any accompanying family members.
